GIVING THE GIFT
OF LITERACY AND MATH.
WHO WE ARE
Reading and math are foundations for success. They provide students with the ability to excel in school and life. Literacy and mathematics empower students to discover their inner potential. Some students struggle with reading and math, but Spreading the Love of Literacy and Math (S.L.L.A.M) believes that the capability to excel isn't out of reach. All it takes is a little love.
S.L.L.A.M. is a non-profit organization that promotes literacy and math for primary grade students, especially for those who live in inner-city and rural areas, by gifting them with books to help start home libraries and strengthen their literacy and math skills.
WHAT WE DO
S.L.L.A.M. works with schools, primary grade teachers, civic and religious organizations to give children the opportunity to enhance their reading and math skills. We cater to students who live in areas that make them be at a higher risk of performing below grade level in reading and math. S.L.L.A.M conducts small group Read-Alouds and author visits at schools or at other events, to model reading fluency to primary grade readers. We facilitate small group, hands-on literacy-based math lessons. We also raise funds to donate books to primary grade students who live in rural and inner-city areas.
